Innovative service latest in wireless applications for Canada’s #1 wireless site

Toronto, Ontario – Travellers on Air Canada will have another option for accessing a variety of relevant travel information with the announcement today that Sympatico-Lycos Inc., the leading Canadian Internet portal, is launching the airline’s Mobile Services.    With the introduction of this service Air Canada becomes the first carrier in Canada to offer air travellers this customer service innovation through wireless devices.

The new service is available through any wireless service provider, and customers can access Air Canada Mobile Services by visiting Sympatico wireless or by entering mobile.aircanada.ca on their Web enabled phone or personal communication device from Research in Motion (RIM),

The service, which was unveiled at a news conference in Toronto, will provide the following information to wireless devices:

  • Flight Notification.  Allows registered users to receive notification of delays or cancellations on specific flights.  Users can choose to be automatically notified by a text message, text pager or a standard e-mail message.
  • Flight status.  Checks real time flight status of any Air Canada flight
  • Timetable.   Displays Air Canada schedule information between cities for a particular date.
  • Aeroplan.   Allows Aeroplan members to check their account balance
  • Contact Us.   Quick reference to frequently called Air Canada numbers
  • Help.  Detailed information on the Air Canada Mobile Service
